Allegory of the Sun

Apollo was the god of the blazing sun. Every morning, he expertly guided his radiant chariot of fire-breathing steeds across the sky to illuminate the entire world. Apollo had a son named Phaethon, who was remarkably human. Phaethon continually begged Apollo to let him pilot the sun chariot and soar across the sky. Eventually, Apollo agreed to lend it to him. Phaethon proudly grasped the reins of the sun chariot and drove it upward into the sky, but then he failed to maintain control over the horses. The blazing sun chariot plummeted towards the earth, setting everything ablaze. Ultimately, Jupiter intervened by firing a lightning bolt to stop the impending disaster.
