Allegorical Seasons - Summer
myminifactory
This set of four allegorical marble figures represents the four seasons. Sculptor Pierre Mazeline created them around 1690 in Paris. As a favored sculptor of King Louis XIV of France, Mazeline made significant contributions to the garden sculpture at Versailles. The Four Seasons were identified after Mazeline's death in an inventory of his estate and later acquired by Joseph-Marie Terray, Controleur-Général of finance under Louis XV. Having spent their lives sheltered inside collectors' salons, Mazeline's Four Seasons are a rare survival and remain in superb condition, showcasing the gardens of Versailles in miniature form.
