Allegorical Seasons - Autumn

myminifactory

This set of four allegorical marble figures represents the four seasons with striking detail. Sculptor Pierre Mazeline crafted them around 1690 in Paris. Mazeline held a privileged position as sculptor to King Louis XIV of France and made significant contributions to garden sculpture at Versailles. The Four Seasons are documented in an inventory of Mazeline's estate following his death in 1708, where they were later acquired by Joseph-Marie Terray, a skilled financier under Louis XV. Having spent their lives protected within the salons of collectors, Mazeline's Four Seasons have remarkably survived and remain in excellent condition: a miniature representation of Versailles' gardens.
