Alizarin Crimson Alizarin Crimson is a hunter who lives in a swamp that's dark, hot, humid, and teeming with life. The swamp starts boiling three times a day, creating bubbles that collect residue from the swamp as they form their shape on the surface. When these bubbles detach and start rising, Alizarin acts quickly, jumping towards them without leaving his tree branch perch. He uses one leg as leverage and his extremely long sticky tongue to snatch the bubble before it bursts. I created Alizarin over 30 years ago as an Industrial design student in a rendering course that used markers and pencils on paper. He existed as a drawing for many years, but I was always fond of him. A while back, I moved to London and finally bought my first 3D printer, the Taz 6, and started learning Blender. When I saw this competition, I decided to challenge myself and revive Alizarin as a 3D creature. Unfortunately, the original drawing was left behind, so I had to reinvent him from memory. The challenge became even harder after the first test print when I thought it would be fun to create his joints and change his position. So, I created tunnels in all three parts and connected them together with a strong elastic cord that can add some fun with transparent ABS filament. There's still a lot to do with Alizarin until he becomes perfect, but my Blender and printing abilities have definitely increased by the process. Technical Specifications: I used Transparent ABS filament from Filamentum. I printed each part separately after trying to print all parts together and experiencing layer shifting problems. Print settings: Layer height 0.2 / Shell thickness 1mm / fill density 20% / support type - touching build plate / print temperature 240 / bed temperature 110 Assembly Instructions: Use an elastic round cord, 1-2 mm in diameter. Push it through the head's hole on one of the parts and out to the side of the tongue. Turn it around the upper part of the tongue and push it back into the second hole. You'll now have two equal sides of the cord holding the head together. Push the other end of the cord through the upper leg, starting from the sphere side. Then, push one side of the cord through the lower leg's sphere hole. Place the two bones of the upper leg on top of this sphere and tie the cord very strongly. Gently push the tie into the sphere to hide it.
