Aliexpress 320mm wheel button plate
thingiverse
I created a nice button plate like you see here, but it's still a work in progress. There are some small design flaws and things I would do differently if I were to start over. I shared the design in hopes that others might find it useful. The button plate is designed to be compatible with a 320mm wheel from Aliexpress. It may also fit other wheels, but I made this design specifically for use on an OSW direct drive base for simracing. You could probably adapt it to another base or even a real car with some modifications. This design only includes the button plate itself. To make a fully functional wheel, you'll need additional parts such as magnetic paddle shifters and a Thrustmaster adapter. You can find these parts on Thingiverse: **Magnetic Paddleshift Shifters for Simracing (Logitech)** by dankart27 https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2724966 **Thrustmaster T500, TX, T300 Wheel Adapter** by Slowly https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:976223 In September 2018, I upgraded to an OSW base and replaced the Thrustmaster adapter with a quick release system. I also added adapters to create more space between the steering wheel and button plate. By February 2019, I received many questions about the electronics. As of now, there is no complete guide on how to do everything. You can find information in the two included Arduino projects: * For Thrustmaster builds: t300_f1_wheel_emulator_v1.ino * For USB builds: hid_joystick_button_plate_v1.zip For general USB HID builds, you can use the Arduino Joystick library: https://github.com/MHeironimus/ArduinoJoystickLibrary. In an ideal world, I would write a comprehensive how-to guide. Unfortunately, I don't have enough free time to make it happen. By June 2019, I tried to create a wiring scheme for the electronics. Let me know if you find it helpful or if there are any issues. In October 2019, I noticed that many people were struggling with connecting the SS pin when using an Arduino Pro Micro. While I haven't tested this myself, I recommend using an Arduino Nano instead. This design is licensed under the CC Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported (CC BY-NC-SA 3.0) license. This means that commercial use is restricted, with one exception: I gave permission to https://srpsimracing.com to manufacture and sell the button plate to a small group of sim racers.
