A preview of My Upgrades to My Anet A8 with Links to All Resources That Helped Me ==================================================================== As you can see from the title of this post, I'm excited to share with you all the upgrades I've made to my Anet A8 3D printer. These upgrades have taken a lot of time and money, but they've greatly improved the performance of my printer. **Update 12/3/2018** ----------------- I recently added a section on hotbed wire upgrade suggestions to help prevent your hotbed connector from catching fire. This is an important safety feature that I highly recommend. **Update 2/3/2018** ----------------- I've also added a new section for Titan Extruder assembly videos, calibration videos, my calibration settings for use with stock stepper motor, firmware settings, mount and photo. These resources have been incredibly helpful in getting the most out of my printer. **Update 22/2/2018** ------------------ In addition to these upgrades, I've also added information on the E3Dv6 Clone, which has greatly improved the quality of my prints. **Intro** -------- A few weeks ago, I purchased an Anet A8 for around $140 from Gearbest. Before receiving the printer, I did a lot of research and learned as much as I could about 3D printing. However, nothing beats first-hand experience, and I quickly realized that there was still a lot to learn. **Purchased Parts List and Cost Including Shipping** --------------------------------------------------- Here is a list of all the parts I've purchased for my Anet A8: * Anet A8: $147.02 * Titan Clone: $26.20 * E3D v6 Clone: $15.98 * Official BLTouch: $48.95 (includes 1m cable extension) * Raspberry Pi Kit: $69.99 * AM8 Frame: $54.42 * AM8 Nuts & Bolts: $13.74 * Rubber Feet: $3.20 * Power Cord: $6.74 * Power Switch: $2.44 * Fuse: $0.08 * Spool Bearings: $1.44 * Idler Pulleys: $6.99 * Mosfet: $8.99 * GT2 Upgraded Belts: $8.99 * Fans (2): $13.96 **Total Cost of Printer and Upgrades:** **$429.13** If you're not comfortable with DIY projects or tinkering, the Anet A8 may not be for you. It requires a lot of patience and experimentation to get things running better than stock. However, if you're willing to put in the time and money, it's definitely worth it. **Upgrades Not Recommended** --------------------------- While I've enjoyed upgrading my Anet A8, there are some upgrades that I would not recommend doing. These include: * Upgrading the hotbed wire without proper precautions * Using cheap or low-quality parts * Not following proper calibration procedures I hope this preview of my upgrades to my Anet A8 has been helpful.
