Alien - Xenomorph Warrior Drone
thingiverse
Here we go, this is my second try making an Alien Xenomorph and I'm thrilled that it finally worked out as planned - I hope you'll love it just as much as I do! I've included some pictures to give you a glimpse into the progress of this creature. The foundation for everything is a fanart model made specifically for XNALara, which can be found online. After posing the model in XNA Posing Studio, where I tried to find a dynamic yet centered position, I had to do a lot of work to make it printable. One step was to solidify the model and merge all its parts into one piece. Then I smoothed out the rough surface by converting triangles to quads and increasing their count. I used Meshmixer to make some minor adjustments and export the model as an STL file with much higher triangle and detail density than before. After conducting several slicing tests, I decided to make more modifications directly to the model because the detailing was too high and not safe for printing. For example, I closed up the mouth-hole and added more material to thinner parts like the thorns/spurs and fingers. To test these modifications, I printed a first version at 80% in PLA. Unfortunately, I had some issues with the supports, which caused me to pause the print several times. My printer wiped away the entire left-hand support, resulting in a creepy finger-mush (which I repaired later), and there was no full support for the right leg because I told my slicer to only generate support from the printbed. In addition, there were some other surface issues, so I decided to send the Xenomorph through Meshmixer again. This time, I reduced the triangles by 50%, and the result is now available for you to download. I spent countless hours on this little guy, literally moving every one of the (formerly) 5 million polygons multiple times. If you enjoy this contribution, it would be great if you could give me some feedback in any way you like - a thumbs-up, a picture of your print, or even a virtual "beer"! In other words, please be fair and follow the license. Don't sell this creature without my permission, and if you display it publicly, use the Thing-Tag. Thanks and have fun!
