This commemorative bust is a tribute to the late visionary H.R Giger. Want to put your printer to the ultimate test? Have a resin-based printer at your disposal and want to show off its capabilities? (I wish I did! :)) The original model was crafted by Sean Kennedy, an exceptionally talented artist in Lightwave over a decade ago. Despite hours of tweaking this mesh to make it printable, I'm not divulging the actual number of hours spent on it – but after H.R Giger's passing on May 13th, I said to myself, what could be the most epic and intricate Alien model possible? I found Sean Kennedy's creation from years back, nearly a decade ago, perhaps even longer. The original model had holes aplenty and was initially designed as an animation backdrop centerpiece; Lightwave sure packs a punch when it comes to data storage – over 100mb after conversion. Processing this mesh required serious CPU crunching – out of all my prints, Ed-209, Darth, none were more detailed or time-consuming than this one. Slicing the base and middle took at least five minutes each. I made the plaque separate for easy placement around any angle you might have it rotated to. This project is ongoing; there's still much to be added – I'm yet to print the rest of it, so I'll wait until its completion before posting the full results. Countless test prints went into making this possible! The ultimate goal involves pairing the Giger wall with this as the side piece and printing a massive bust featuring just the head – right now, it's taking its time in printing.
