Alien Head Nesting Box (wall mount)
thingiverse
*If you got an Alien head, what do you build with? A nesting box for birds, of course!* Thanks to OrdSolutions for the Alien Head. It's designed for long-term use so there's a cap on the back that can be cleaned. If you plan to use it year after year, PETG is your first choice. The dimensions fit common garden birds perfectly, don't scale them up or down. You'll need a 300x300mm printer like the CR-10 to print it (you may need to place it diagonally on the build plate). Use supports for the ears and inner details so they don't become too smooth for the birds. "Only touching build plate support" might be enough. Make sure six tiny air holes are clear (in the nose, ears, and behind the ears). If possible, use thick layers or print it in lower quality to give the skin a rough texture and avoid painting it (the eyes should still look okay). I recommend at least 1mm wall thickness. Print it in natural colors like brown, dark green, white, gray, or black – not pink, red, yellow, or anything bright. Consider adding some old tiny leaves to make it look more natural for the birds. There's a wall mount that may need scaling and reprinting depending on your printer and wall type. Use strong infill for the wall mount. Place the nesting box at least 2m off the ground and out of direct sunlight. Make sure other animals can't reach it (like cats). The hole should face east or southeast (in Europe). I haven't printed it yet, just designed it for fun (and the birds). Do you love this crazy thing? Let me know. If you do make one, please give feedback and share a picture.
