Alien Face Hugger – Free Hugs & Kisses – 3D Printed 50% Larger than Life By: Jeff Tregre . From the motion picture Alien (1979), this is my 3D-Printed model of the Face Hugger which I printed 50% larger than life-size using PLA Plastic on my FlashForge Guider II Printer. . Now for those of you that might not have ever seen the movie, or remember some of the details, here’s a 2.5 minute video of the Face Hugger. . The life size model was downloaded from Thingiverse, titled: Ultimate Alien Face Hugger by Agisis 11/06/2015. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1116392 . Total Printer Build Time of the 76 pieces = 136.5 Hrs. in Hyper (Hi-Res Mode). That time does not including the sanding, gluing, assembly, & painting. I used 10% Infill on both top & bottom sides of the torso, thereby making it light enough for the 8 legs to hold up. I used 40% Infill on the legs & tail pieces which made them strong enough for the compression fit of the ball joints & sockets. . I used several tubes of Super Glue & a bag of rubber bands to fuse the entire top & bottom parts together until the glue was dry. For tools, I used a Dremel, X-Acto Blades, Flat Blades, Bondo, Coarse Files, 60 Grit Sandpaper, & Emery Cloth. . This model will require quite a bit of sanding on the bottom flat sides & on the ball joints. It will also require quite a bit of muscle to compress each of the ball joints into the sockets. . For the paint, I went to Home Depot & purchased 4 (7.25 ounces) of cream, dark brown, black, & dark red water based paint. After the cream color paint was dry, I painted over it with the dark brown paint. Allow the dark brown paint to sit for about 1 minute, then use a damp sponge, wipe over the area. This will give a very realistic look to the model. . Finally, I hung the model up & sprayed it with a clear coat of high gloss paint, which gave the model a wet look as if it just crawled out of the egg & is searching for a host. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NqVqchbRs4
