Alien design Sheet-Metal Folding
grabcad
The two-step production process features a straightforward setup, resulting in a 2.5mm sheet metal structure with fillet ends and simple finishing for the safety of crew members. Disassembling the plate is easy; simply make a hole on any side to access the butterfly nut. For long-term fixation during missions, bolts and nuts can be fastened securely onto rails. Descriptions are provided in PDF files, with legs marked by numbers. Laser-cut and folded manufacturing will yield leg weights of 185g (leg 1), 188g (leg 2), 217g (leg 3), and 186g (leg 4). The material used is aluminum alloy 1100. Screws are M8 with butterfly nuts, ensuring each leg's uniqueness. Due to a cavity in the experiment volume, a secondary design was created if needed. Stress analysis for forces and simulations were conducted at both 9.8m/s² (real ISS environment) and 1g, proving the structure's strength against vertical forces. This submission presents a simple sheet metal approach for the second design, dated 10:04:2016 from Germany.
