Alien 5" Radio Tray
thingiverse
This radio tray is specifically designed for the ImpulseRC Alien 5" quadcopter, making it easy to organize the installation of radio equipment. You can find more information on the Alien Quadcopter range at https://impulserc.com/collections/alien. This tray allows you to mount your VTX and RX with ease and keeps everything tidy. The design accommodates both right-hand and left-hand side SMA VTXs, and an LED can be installed in the spare hole if needed. However, there are two schools of thought on this solution; one is that mounting the radio kit close together can cause intermodulation products and potentially overdrive the sensitive front end of the RX, resulting in blocking and a reduction in range. On the other hand, some people suggest that there's no impact based on their practical experience. It's recommended to make your own checks and draw your conclusions. In my opinion, it works fine for me and my flying, but I suggest you take this into consideration when making your decision. Some users like @finalglideaus recommend separating the RX and VTX if you plan to fly long distances, while others prefer to mount them as far apart as possible for better performance. Drew's view is that it all seems to work well even when mounted close together, and he hasn't experienced any lockouts yet. This design was inspired by @drewcamden aka LeDrib, and you can find more information about his "commdock" at http://shop.miniquadclub.com/shop/accessories/mqc-fusion-commdock/. Drew's "commdock" is specifically designed for the MiniQuadClub Fusion Frame - http://shop.miniquadclub.com/shop/frames/mqc-fusion/. This radio tray has been optimized to print with TPU using 2mm support structures and features a front and rear brace structure, square holes in the rear brace to help align the VTX, and a reduced diameter rear plug in the RX antenna tube hole to help locate RX antenna tubes. This is the third iteration of this design.
