Alice Cooper, originally from Pennsylvania, married John L. Cooper in the 1850s. Sources disagree on the specifics of their union. John Cooper's diary, accessible through Archivegrid, confirms they wed on the East Coast in 1852, whereas the Sacramento Daily Union newspaper reports they exchanged vows in Santa Cruz on July 4, 1859. Without a scan or physical copy of the diary pages, it can be inferred that "1852" might have been an error in transcription, and 1859 was likely their actual wedding year. Little is known about Alice, but John L. Cooper played a significant role in Santa Cruz as a businessman. He moved west from Pennsylvania in 1849. For many years, he served as the Santa Cruz County Supervisor. Along with his brother William, who became the city's first mayor in 1876, they donated land for the construction of the county courthouse. http://beta.worldcat.org/archivegrid/collection/data/237007870 http://cdnc.ucr.edu/cgi-bin/cdnc?a=d&d=SDU18590830.2.12.1&e=-------en–20–1–txt-txIN------# http://www.santacruzmah.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Cooper-Family.pdf
