The Alliance is a fictional corporate supergovernment in the Firefly franchise, ruling with an iron fist as a powerful authoritarian government and law-enforcement organization that dominates the majority of territory within the known universe. The Independent Faction or "Browncoats" fiercely fought to preserve the autonomy of the outer worlds and resisted Alliance control with every ounce of strength they had. The war raged on for several years, causing devastating losses on both sides, until the Alliance finally emerged victorious. An armistice was signed between the Alliance and the Independent Faction, bringing an end to the war and solidifying Alliance control over the entire system.
