Algie - Pink Floyd Pig

Inflatable flying pigs captivated audiences as iconic props during Pink Floyd's electrifying live performances. These charismatic creatures repeatedly appeared on stage to promote concerts and record releases, and even graced the cover of their groundbreaking 1977 album Animals. The original inflatable pig was masterminded by Roger Waters and brought to life in December 1976 by visionary artist Jeffrey Shaw, who collaborated closely with design team Hipgnosis. However, disaster struck when no one bothered to inform the marksman that he needed to return on the second day, leaving him absent from his post. On the third day, a powerful gust of wind swept through, causing the inflatable pig to break free and sending shockwaves throughout the media. The elusive creature disappeared from view within just five minutes, only to be spotted soaring high above at thirty thousand feet by airline pilots. Flights at Heathrow Airport were subsequently grounded as the massive inflatable pig flew directly into the path of aircraft, heading eastwards out of Britain and over the English Channel before finally touching down on a rural farm in Kent that night. The original inflatable pig that was launched above Battersea Power Station was aptly named "Algie".
