Alexander as Helios
thingiverse
Cosmo Wenman's reimagined the plaster cast of Alexander as Helios from Skulpturhalle Basel, capturing it through 3D technology. This head is said to be either a second-century Egyptian artifact or a 19th-century forgery, showcasing layers of artifice. Wenman shares his work as part of the project "Through A Scanner, Skulpturhalle," with results on Thingiverse. He also delves into the propagandistic powers of portraiture in his own works. The capture was done using a Canon EOS 5D Mark II and Sigma EX 50mm lens, processed with ReCap 360, and edited with Blender before decimation via Project Memento. Standing 471mm tall, it features 1.7 million triangles before editing. Wenman thanks Skulpturhalle Basel and Autodesk's Reality Capture division for supporting his project. A photo of Robert Plant by Peter Simon is also featured. Tips on using ReCap or 123D Catch can be found on Wenman's blog.
