V2: The v2 parts upgrade and replace the outdated vive_top and vive_mid components, delivering a stronger assembly than merely gluing them together. A quarter inch bolt traverses the entire construction. The V2_rail_mount is designed from scratch, elongated to minimize potential wobble on the rail. It also features a latch providing added retention to the vive wand. If you prefer less retention, the OLD_rail_mount remains compatible with all v2 parts; feel free to use that alternative instead. Non 3d printed components: * 2 x 1/4in hex bolt, 2.5" long * 2 x 1/4in nut * 2 x #8 x 35mm * 2 x #8 nut OLD: The original rail part utilizes the weaver rail from http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:259377 and was inspired by the HTC vive controller gun rail mount design. I built that model, but the alignment tabs proved too finicky, and the magnets were not strong enough to hold it together. Print settings: * Rafts: Not necessary * Supports: Yes * Resolution: .5mm (or less) * Infill: 25-40% * Notes: This project is not overly concerned with z-axis resolution. I printed using a .6mm nozzle at .5mm layer height. You can print with a smaller nozzle or lower layer height, but you may want to increase the number of shells for added strength. The only component requiring supports is the rail mount; I printed it with supports on the rail contact surface. Post-printing: The Rail Mount fits tightly. Once attached to your rail, you can slide it up and down multiple times, allowing the rail to smooth out any high areas. It will still fit snugly but can be repositioned easily. Optional: If securing printed parts to vive wands proves challenging, try this: apply a thin layer of hot glue to the contact surfaces that touch the inside of the vive wand. Use a pop-sickle stick to spread the glue as thinly as possible.
