Albula is a cutting-edge urban device that tackles the crisis of pollution and degradation of the Tiber River. The installation serves as both an urban space and a metaphor for the mills that once populated the river, evoking a forgotten popular imagination. In the past, the mill generated energy by harnessing the river's flow; now, in the MAXXI piazza, Albula uses "inverse ecology" to tap into human flow instead, purifying Tiber water and returning it to the city.
