Albert Einstein by Jacob Epstein, 1933
thingiverse
Cosmo Wenman shares his experience in 3D printing a bronze portrait of Albert Einstein scanned from a cast in the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. The sculpture was created by Jacob Epstein in 1933 while Einstein was a refugee from Nazi Germany. Wenman used Autodesk 123D Catch to make the scan, printed it with PLA on a MakerBot Replicator, and finished it with Alternate Reality Patinas to resemble bronze. This is his first attempt at duplicating a museum sculpture in situ, and he's pleased with the result despite some limitations due to lighting and time spent photographing. Wenman provides various .stl files and .zip archives of the printable Einstein portrait configurations for others to use.
