The first prototype of the Albatros B.II German plane appeared during 1915 and saw service on both Eastern and Western fronts of World War I, although in extremely small numbers throughout 1917-1918. It carried out recon and liaison duties in addition to observation from the rear cockpit which housed a standard camera mounted underneath an easily removed panel for use at night time, equipped also with other observational equipment as radio transmission for communication.
