Project Cenotes and Cave Archeological of Quintana Roo, Mexico / 2017 Archeological Project of Cenotes and Caves in Quintana Roo, Mexico. 3D Model created by Octavio del Río - ArqSubMx Aktun Ha The Aktun Ha Cenote, also known as "Carwash", gives access to a flooded cave system almost 3 km long. Inside these caves is the "Ancestors' Chamber", which houses a series of hearths or fireplaces dating back between 10,250 and 10,740 years ago. The existence of these fires, located at 27 meters depth, suggests that humans occupied the chamber before the sea level rise at the end of the glacial era when the caves were dry and provided shelter and protection against climate-related attacks during that time and the mega fauna it cohabited with in the territory.
