The Zamani Project charted the Stelae Field in Axum with precision using terrestrial laser scanning back in 2006. Situated near Ethiopia's northern edge, the remains of ancient Aksum hold significant historical value. This once-mighty city served as the epicenter of ancient Ethiopia when the Kingdom of Aksum wielded power between the Eastern Roman Empire and Persia. The sprawling ruins, spanning from the 1st to the 13th century AD, feature colossal obelisks, towering stelae, imperial tombs, and crumbling ancient strongholds. Even after its fall in the 10th century, Ethiopian emperors remained committed to being crowned in Aksum for centuries to come.
