I wanted a compensator that both wouldn't explode and would give me some muzzle climb reduction when shooting at high rates using binary triggers.There are no threads on the inside. I heated up the threads of the barrel and then screwed the compensator on while hot to ‘cut’ the threads. It holds on very snug after that, but can be unscrewedI noticed a decent improvement shooting 22LR. Much more able to stay on target when approaching 600RPM. I don't know if it will stand up to 223 or 556
