This fix may be a lifesaver for owners of AKG 240 MKII head phones. My own headphones began to overextend (rotation) and ultimately gave up the ghost after I lent them to my son, who promptly broke them. It turned out that a small plastic component inside had snapped, allowing the ear pads to rotate freely, which in turn tore the cables. Fortunately, this little replacement plastic disk proved to be just what I needed to replace the broken part and get my phones back in working order. The headphones feel brand new again. Here's how you can repair them: Use a tiny screwdriver or similar tool to pry off the cover plate (simply insert the screwdriver into the small opening and lift). The cover plate is the shiny round sticker thing in the middle of the ear pad with the AKG logo. Unscrew the screws (one if right, two if left) and open up the device. Fix any soldering issues and remove any plastic fragments that may have been left behind from the broken part. For the right side only, screw a tiny screw into the small hole of the new plastic piece to tap it in place, then remove the screw again. Push the beams into position (use pliers if necessary - be careful) to click them into place. Place the stretchy band underneath the assembly and push it into place while keeping the band taut. Screw down the assembly and release the stretch band. Screw on the lid and replace the cover plate. Voila! Your headphones should now feel like they're brand new again.
