AK74 & AKM Barrel Populating Alignment Jig

AK74 & AKM Barrel Populating Alignment Jig

This is a multi-part assembly due to printer size constraints. The longest piece in this assembly measures 6 inches by 2.5 inches, so if your printer exceeds that size, you can manufacture this jig. This jig is based on the alignment jig created by Requiem Arms from aluminum but is made of plastic and costs significantly less than $60. It serves its purpose well, keeping the gas block and front sight block aligned with the rear sight block while pressing them onto the barrel. The fit is tight on the barrel components to maintain their alignment, so if your printer is not calibrated accurately, it may not work effectively for you. To use this assembly, headspace the barrel in the front trunnion and drill/ream the barrel pin hole. Press the rear sight block into position and align it centered between the front trunnion ears by visual inspection. Drill and pin the rear sight block to the barrel, then push out the barrel pin from the front trunnion and remove the barrel from the trunnion. Place the tool over the rear sight block (you will need to either remove the rear sight or flip it up and work it through the rear jig slot). Slide on your handguard retainer (or don't if you're using a Zhukov handguard) and then push the gas block until it's seated on the barrel. While in the jig's slot, press the gas block on until it touches the end of its locating slot. Ensure you measured correctly so that the gas port will align with the gas block at the stopped position. Drill and pin the gas block and then slip the front sight block onto the barrel and proceed to press it on until it's flush with the end of the barrel (for AK74) or flush with the thread's shoulder (for AKM). Don't pin the front sight block until after it's been sighted in, as you may need to adjust it slightly after initial assembly. Remove the jig and press the assembly back into the front trunnion and pin it. That concludes this tool's usage. Print Settings: Printer Brand: SeeMeCNC Printer: Rostock MAX Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: .25mm Infill: 25% on blocks and 75% on pins Notes: The pins may need to be scaled so they fit properly. They should fit just snugly enough to prevent the parts from moving in the assembly, but not so tightly that they crack or distort anything. I scaled mine to 95% for a nice fit. Rotate all components so their pockets face upwards while printing to avoid using supports. This assembly fits both my AK74 and Polish AKM builds, but I can only speak for myself.
