Ajaw Head [1]

The word Ajaw, pronounced ah-how, designates the inaugural day in a 260-day ritual calendar system. It is also defined as "lord" or divine ruler. The whimsical countenances linked with the glyphic form of Ajaw bear resemblance to monkeys or skeletal remains but possess another significance. They can be phonetically interpreted as "nic-te" or flower. "Sac nic-te," meaning white flower, represents a metaphor for the soul, and these stone heads that once adorned temples in the East Court embody symbols of this concept. The artisans' sense of humor is apparent in this fusion of humorous visages that also convey a serious message. This object is part of the "Scan The World" initiative. Scan The World is a non-profit endeavor introduced by MyMiniFactory, aimed at creating a digital repository of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks, and landmarks from across the globe for public access free of charge.
