Aizen Myo-o, the 'Passionate King of Light', wields the power to crush desire and liberate the faithful from lust. He wears a majestic lion headdress and sits enthroned on a lotus throne, radiating an aura of divine majesty. His six arms are typically adorned with a bow and arrow, thunderbolts, and various ritual objects, although some are noticeably absent in this sculpture. The artwork was originally resplendent with vibrant colors, but over time, it has been repainted, likely during the 1800s. In truth, the esoteric doctrines of tantric mysticism are so profound that they cannot be adequately conveyed through written words. However, with the aid of painting, their complexities may be deciphered and understood. The diverse attitudes and ritual gestures depicted in holy images all originate from the Buddha's infinite love, and one may attain enlightenment by beholding them... Art is what reveals to us the pinnacle of perfection. — Monk Kukai (AD 774-835)
