Airsoft Optics Protector Lens
thingiverse
Noticed that my optics protectors for my airsoft guns don't seem to last very long, the acrylic lenses they include go right to crap with 1-2 BB's and shatter.Well, Acrylic only has about 0.3-0.4lb/in worth of impact resistance, and a 0.2g 6mm BB moving at 400fps (1.48~J) carries about 0.35lb worth of impact force, so yeah, it's going to shatter. So I had these cut out of Lexan (Polycarbonate) and PETG (clear). PETG has an impact resistance of around 1.7lb/in, whereas Polycarbonate will happily eat 12+lb/in worth of force.Picture shown is the PETG lens happily giving my SCAR-H in Full Auto the finger. This is 40-something rounds at 8ft away and ~19rps.You'll want 1/8" or 3mm thickness, whichever you can get. In quantity, you can easily get these lenses down to around $2/ea at shops like SendCutSend. The DXF is what you actually want, but I had to include an STL for Thingiverse to be happy. Don't print it - that wouldn't work.If you'd like a custom shape, let me know and I'll be happy to knock the DXF together for you.
