Airsoft Impact Spring Grenade
thingiverse
The primary goal of this project was not to surpass commercially available spring grenades or gas-powered ones. Instead, its main objective was to test a concept and create a functional airsoft spring grenade that doesn't rely on trap doors. I'm thrilled with the results and eager to share them with you. To learn more about the specs, how it works, and assemble the grenade, follow this video: https://youtu.be/gOvhrMRbbZ8 The performance of the grenade is heavily dependent on the springs used. I wouldn't recommend exceeding a 50mm AEG spring length (I utilized a stock one) as there's no clear benefit in doing so. For trapezoidal (mid-cap) springs, high-quality ones will yield better results. I employed the springs from a Cyma mid-cap 140bb mag, but Maple Leaf offers a superior spring kit for mid-caps at approximately 15€. If you decide to invest in this option or any other improved springs, please share your findings with me. As for 4mm pen springs, as long as they're around 4mm in diameter and compress enough for the traps to allow BBs through, they should suffice. To assemble the grenade, you'll need: - 1 AEG Spring (or similar) cut to 40-50mm (length will depend on your spring strength) - 1 Mid-cap (140bbs) or 1 trapezoidal spring cut into 6 sections of 90mm - 2 4mm pen springs cut into 6 sections of 4-5mm (discard the ends, as they might not compress enough) - 13 M2x8 bolts (M2x6 can also work, but I recommend using M2x8 for better results) - 1 1.5mm allen key to serve as a pin or alternative I've allowed a 0.3mm tolerance between parts, and sanding may be necessary for optimal performance. You want the BBs to pass through smoothly, with minimal play between parts. The skin is optional but highly recommended for durability, as this will be something you'll frequently handle. If any internal components break, it's likely to be the piston shaft due to its middle section thickness. This is one reason why I advise against overdoing the spring length – more power means more stress, and in this case, more power won't yield better results. The skin also serves an aesthetic purpose, so I'd love to see more variety in the future designs. If you have a design concept but can't model it, send me sketches with precise ideas (including dimensions) and I'll be happy to create a model for you to join with the STLs.
