I created a dock for my Airpods with a silicone case that I carefully designed to have a precise 1 mm margin of silicon thickness. This allows me to install a genuine Apple cable with ease, requiring only two M3 screws for assembly. If the cable starts to slip, I simply insert a toothpick into the hole through the cable to secure it in place. On a surprising note, I recently inserted the Apple remote controller and was thrilled that it installed without any issues at all. This unexpected twist turned my dock into a versatile charging station that can share both AirPods and the Apple remote control with others.
