Airbus Flap Panel and Handle with step functionality
thingiverse
Models Designed for installation on Airbus A32X/A330/A340/A350/A380 aircraft. Airbus Flaps Panel and Lever serves as a functional mockup, featuring a step function to transition seamlessly between the five settings (0, 1, 2, 3, FULL) required in flight simulations. Position sensing design is still pending development, but possible solutions involve utilizing a variable resistor paired with gears or microswitches to determine current position accurately. Background The addition of flaps to an aircraft significantly boosts its lift coefficient CL, expanding wing surface area. As a result, aircraft can decrease their speed prior to landing, requiring shorter runways for takeoff. Notes A sturdy M4 Aluminium rod is recommended for the long rod design. However, springback mechanisms for the stepping function are not currently integrated into this prototype. To enhance the mechanism's smooth operation, it would be feasible to drill a wider hole for springs between the step lock and known pieces or insert a rubber band in the lower half. Dimensions have been calculated based on photographic measurements. If you have an Airbus aircraft available, please verify these dimensions against your own model to ensure accuracy. Designing this mockup in Solidworks proved to be an enjoyable learning experience; feedback from users is welcome.
