The Airbus Beluga XL Cargo Jet is Being Built. It Resembles a Whale. This giant cargo jet from Airbus aerospace gets its name because it looks like a whale, much like the old A300-600ST Beluga which this new plane replaces. Beluga XL can Carry Heavy Loads Far. Taking after the successful A330-200F aircraft, Beluga XL is designed to transport super heavy loads across massive distances - as long as 4,000 km. The space inside the cargo hold of Beluga XL is actually bigger than its predecessor; it's a whole six meters longer and one meter wider. In total, Airbus Plans Six New Cargo Jets. The brand new Beluga XL jets are set to start rolling out by 2019 with their job being to gradually replace the old fleet over several years until finally by 2025 they're doing all the transporting themselves, taking parts for planes made by Airbus from different places around Europe back and forth in a massive logistical operation that happens smoothly and quietly under normal circumstances.
