I created a custom cover for my bedroom vent after noticing that the outside of the building wasn't sealed properly. This meant that when the fan was off and the AC was on, precious cold air escaped through the vent hole. The flaps will automatically open when the fan is on and close when it's off. This cover is specifically designed for vents with a diameter of 100 mm (4 inch). If you have a larger vent, like one that's 6 inches in diameter, you might be able to scale up the design.
