Air Tops (Customizable Helicopter Toy)
thingiverse
This is a compact, fast-spinning, airborne toy. Spinning the Air Top like a regular top (except with handle facing downwards) should be enough to generate some upward motion. To achieve longer flights, the Air Top can be spun by placing the handle between your middle finger and thumb while snapping your fingers. This toy can be customized using the "Open in Customizer" button on Thingiverse. Alternatively, you can download the .scad file and open it with OpenSCAD on your computer to modify it directly. The three-bladed model shown uses default settings in customizer. The two-bladed version shown requires a 40mm handle and changing the number of blades from three to two. These models print quickly, taking approximately six minutes to complete. I used: Layer Height: 0.2 mm Wall Thickness: 0.8 mm and 25% infill for the prints shown in the pictures/video. A short YouTube video showcasing them in action can be found at https://youtu.be/o-odv3DL_RA
