Air Pruning Pot
thingiverse
I'm a passionate hunter and wildlife enthusiast who also enjoys cultivating trees. To grow seedlings until they're ready for planting, I rely on Rootmaker pots and bags. These containers excel at air pruning roots to prevent them from circling the bottom of the container and becoming constricted. This led me to consider creating my own version of these innovative pots. Realizing that reinventing the wheel wasn't necessary, I adapted a "net pot" design as my ideal root-pruning vessel. However, this design has some drawbacks: its flat bottom can cause roots to grow towards it instead of towards the holes when they hit the bottom, resulting in kinking and constricting. Additionally, there are too many holes on the sides, leading to excessive drainage, which isn't necessary given that I use a professional soilless mix that drains well enough. To address this issue, I modified the net pot design by filling in some of the side holes and inserting a wedge into the bottom to direct roots towards the holes.
