Air Boat Remix
thingiverse
This is a remake of the Air Boat by Awseiger. It required a deck lid so I came up with one. The hatch is designed to have a magnet hold down in the front and latches in the back to secure it. The hatch is built in two halves for those with smaller print areas. There's also a one-piece version available. I glued the two halves together while in position on the boat, using wax paper to protect the hatch from accidentally being glued to the boat. See picture 6. I used Gorilla Super Glue GEL because it's thick and fills gaps well. The magnets I utilized were the ones I had handy. They were smaller ones. Now that it's assembled, I should have used the next size up for a tighter hold. That size is the Rare Earth Magnets Item#67488 from Harbor Freight. To attach the hatch magnet support, I marked 5mm from each end and clamped it to the underside of the front deck. See pictures 8 and 9. When I added the rudders, I encountered trouble with the ClevisJoinerRod_V1. I had to reposition the servo to the other side. It's hot-glued on. I also used a paper clip for the wire. I formed a "Z" bend on one end but left extra rod bent to add support for the joiner rod, which was falling over and jamming the rudders. I secured it with a connector on the servo arm that holds the rod from twisting. See pictures 4 and 5. More updates will follow as I complete and use the boat. Things to do - balance the boat to its proper center of gravity. It should be at 30% from the back of the boat. This can be done by running the boat over a round pencil and adjusting the battery, etc., until it hits the CG mark. The correct position should be 72mm from the rear. Also, the motor needed to be reversed because the prop hit and broke in the pusher setup. 11/23/2018: Update - the 30% information must have been incorrect. I tried it at this point, and the rear was too low. Giving it power to get it up on plane drove the back of the boat lower. More information will follow.
