Air-Bearing-Based Attitude Simulator for CubeSat Satellites
thingiverse
An open-source air-bearing attitude simulator designed to fit within the confines of a 1U CubeSat is now available. This cutting-edge platform boasts directional air nozzles, which empower users to generate external torque in real-time. This sophisticated capability enables users to counteract two primary sources of instability: i) parasitic moments of inertia generated by the satellite's enclosure and ii) error torque produced by imperfections. Furthermore, this innovative system is capable of simulating disturbances found within a space environment. The design behind this remarkable simulator was conceived by Nemanja Jovanović. For those seeking more information, please refer to the following publication: Design and Testing of a Low-Cost, Open Source, 3-D Printed Air-Bearing-Based Attitude Simulator for CubeSat Satellites. This groundbreaking study, authored by Nemanja Jovanović, Joshua M. Pearce, and Jaan Praks, was published in the Journal of Small Satellites Vol. 8, No. 2, pp. 859–880 (2019).
