Air Assist Nozzles for Comgrow's Z1 Laser Engraver
cults3d
I made these nozzles in an effort to learn more about how air assist affects cut quality on a hobby laser engraver (in this case Comgrow's Z1 laser engraver). My full efforts are documented here: https://youtu.be/cwoBI7O9Noo I was also trying to duplicate the excellent improvement that Nervous System Blog was able to achieve with their laminar nozzle design, documented here: https://n-e-r-v-o-u-s.com/blog/?p=8722 I was unsuccessful. There are 4 nozzles in these files: FAN: uses stock fan as air supply, but forces air through a much smaller opening than the stock nozzle FAN LAM: uses stock fan, along with my poor attempt at a laminar nozzle PUMP: uses the fish tank air compressor that I use on my CO2 laser as the air supply, much higher pressure than the fan PUMP LAM: same as #3 but again with the laminar nozzle The detailed story is in the YouTube video, but conclusion is summarized here: when cutting wood, the higher pressure pump does a great job reducing the amount of smoke that deposits on either side of the part. This is less important when cutting acrylic. (I did not test other materials)
