This is an image of Agrippina the Younger, a Roman empress and prominent figure in the Julio-Claudian dynasty. Born into a family of powerful Romans, Agrippina's father Germanicus was a renowned general who briefly succeeded Tiberius as heir apparent to the empire; her mother Agrippina the Elder was a descendant of Emperor Augustus. As sister of Caligula and niece of Claudius, Agrippina married her uncle Claudius in AD 49. Historians portray Agrippina as cunning, manipulative, and violent, driven by an insatiable desire for power. Physically, she was a stunning beauty admired by many Romans. However, accounts of her poisoning Claudius vary, with some sources implicating Agrippina directly. Ultimately, Agrippina's fate was sealed when her son Nero ordered her execution in AD 59.
