Andrea Pisano (Pontedera 1290 – 1348 Orvieto), also known as Andrea da Pontedera, was an Italian sculptor and architect who honed his skills as a goldsmith before becoming a renowned artist. Around 1300, Pisano joined forces with Mino di Giovanni and collaborated on the stunning sculpture for S. Maria della Spina at Pisa, making significant contributions elsewhere. With time, Pisano shifted his focus to Florence, where he crafted his masterpieces under the guidance of Giotto di Bondone, whose influence greatly shaped his mature style. Among his most celebrated works is one of the three iconic bronze doors of the Baptistery in Florence, situated on the south side; Pisano commenced work on this impressive project in 1330 and completed it by 1336.
