Agon (Queen’s Guard) Board Game
thingiverse
Agon, also known as the Queen's Guard, is a tabletop game briefly mentioned in Tabletop Game Design for Video Game Designers. Notably, it was the first known game to utilize hexagonal playing spaces. There are French tables from the 1780s that feature tops with an inlay design mirroring the Agon board layout. It seems unlikely that the game itself dates back to that time period, given its first recorded mention in 1872. However, it is entirely possible that the table design may have inspired the creation of the game. It would not be the first instance where a table design influenced a game's development – Gary Gabrel's invention of Pente in 1977 was directly inspired by checkered tablecloths and, likely, Go-Moku, at the Hideaway Pizza restaurant he worked at. Research conducted by Edward Copisarow suggests that Agon should be dated to 1842 based on an English patent application.
