AGM-114 Hellfire Missile in sections
thingiverse
I wanted a print that was different colors and larger than my printbed, so I decided to break it up into parts before painting it. Unfortunately, I'm not very good at painting and even with clamping the pieces together during assembly, I still managed to misalign them on two axes. To solve this problem, I modified this model by breaking it down into separate sections for filament color separation and eliminating the need for painting altogether. A square center pole was added to ensure that all angles are right-angled, and dots were included to indicate which piece needs to be assembled in what order. The missile rails were also removed to allow only those specific parts to be painted silver, with holes left behind where they originally attached. When assembling this model, I recommend matching segments 2, 4, and 6 to the same color (yellow or white work well). Segments 1, 3, 5, and 7 should also match in color, with olive green or black being good options. A note of caution: when printing a model with many pieces like this one, make sure that all parts are scaled correctly. If you scale up or down, be certain to apply the same scaling factor to every piece. The center strut and missile rails have tight tolerances, so improper scaling may cause these pieces not to fit properly. UPDATE 1: After printing, I found that the center stabilizer was slightly loose in its square fitting, so I made some adjustments for a better fit.
