Agias

Agias stands as one of eight male figures honoring past and present members of his patron's esteemed family line. A discovered inscription on-site confirms Daochos from Pharsalos as the generous benefactor behind this masterpiece, specifically highlighting Agias as a renowned athlete who took home top prizes in competition. Clearly, Agias was an accomplished wrestler or boxer, evidenced by his prominent cauliflower ear. As great-grandfather to Daochos, Agias dominated sporting events over a century prior to this sculpture's creation, rendering any perceived portrait of him an idealized representation. Regrettably, modern restoration efforts have been necessary to restore the legs of this original work crafted by Lysippos, currently housed within Delphi Museum's permanent collection for all to admire.
