Initially showcased at the 1877 Salon in Paris, France, a baseless accusation arose that Rodin had molded the sculpture by casting a living subject, a claim he vehemently disputed. This false charge inadvertently boosted Rodin's reputation as people eagerly sought to witness this alleged feat for themselves.
