AGC-VR (Another Google Cardboard VR Goggles)
thingiverse
I got inspired by those cool OnePlus VR goggles someone posted here. My only problem is I'm stuck with a Nexus 5, so I decided to give making my own VR goggles a shot. I did some research on different designs - Google Cardboard was everywhere, plus more professional stuff like OSVR and Oculus. One Cardboard design that caught my eye was the DAVYCI Pro. It had some awesome features: small, collapsible, and able to hold any phone perfectly in place. That's exactly what I used as a starting point for mine. Then I found some sweet lenses on Amazon that work like a charm and didn't break the bank. The best part of this design was definitely the back plate. It uses four screws so you can center your phone precisely in the viewing space. After playing around with it, though, it's kind of a hassle to set up - I plan to add channels for the bolts to slide in smoothly and use thumb screws instead. This is still a work in progress, but it's already working great - albeit not perfectly yet. Once I have some more free time, I'll refine this design and make it even better. For anyone curious about those lenses: they're 38mm diameter with a 50mm focal length. My only problem was that the ones I ordered (three of them, including a spare) all turned out slightly larger - 39mm, 40mm, and one huge one at 41mm! With the rig I built, I ended up using the 39 and 40, so I made sure my lens holder was good for 40mm. So, if you're buying these lenses, be warned. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EPQ9EVQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
