This is an original 3D scan of a teapot expertly crafted from clay by my own hands. As the starting point for a thought-provoking process piece, I'm delving into the inevitable loss and abstraction that occurs when converting real objects to digital formats via 3D scans. The physical manifestation you see before you is a deliberate creation where every imperfection - every fingerprint, every brushstroke - remains intact, serving as a testament to my personal touch. Yet, even with this attention to detail, I've already begun to lose something essential in the translation process; the scan itself is an abstraction of the original, a shadow cast by the reality it represents. This initial piece is merely the beginning of a two-part exploration that seeks to expose and understand the complexities inherent in this process.
