The Crouching Aphrodite was a bronze sculpture by Doidalsa, dating back around 250 BC. It is now known only from Roman-era copies, with the best one being a marble version without arms (h. 106 cm) in the National Roman Museum at Palazzo Massimo in Rome. The Crouching Venus is an Hellenistic model of Venus caught off guard during her bath. Venus crouches down low to the ground with her right knee close, turns her head sharply to the right and, in most versions, stretches out her right arm over to her left shoulder to cover up her breasts.[1] The number of copies found on Roman sites in Italy and France suggests that this unique version of Venus was extremely popular.
