The Statue is situated at the Palace of Versailles in the Africa Room. As a monarch with a penchant for grand entertainment, King Louis XIV elevated the concept to unprecedented heights, transforming Versailles into a venue for spectacular celebrations and performances that grew increasingly lavish, extraordinary, and fantastical. With his profound understanding of human psychology, he recognized that the political framework he had established required a "society of pleasures" where courtiers could develop an honest familiarity with their sovereign, and be captivated by their presence more deeply than words can express. Every day at the French Court demanded diverse forms of entertainment. The extraordinary character of royal events was designed to astonish the Court, the kingdom, and Europe. Each of his successors adhered to this tradition of splendor and creativity in entertainment, tailoring it to their individual tastes and the changing fashions of the time. The exhibition aims to showcase the remarkable variety of entertainment presented at the Court of Versailles, including hunting, shows, comedies, operas, concerts, solo music performances, walks, outdoor games, sports, other games, fires, and illuminations, spanning a significant period from Louis XIV to the Revolution. This approach is not exhaustive, but rather designed to share the emotions of the time through a selection of notable works that will delight the eyes and imagination. The curators drew upon scientific expertise in each domain.\r\n(Credit: Chateauversailles)\r\n\r\nThis object is part of "Scan The World".
