Afghanistan, officially known as the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, is a landlocked nation situated within South Asia and Central Asia. Bordered by Pakistan in the south and east, Iran in the west, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan in the north, and China in the far northeast, its territory spans 652,000 square kilometers. The Hindu Kush mountain range covers much of its land, creating very cold winters, while fertile plains lie in the north and deserts with scorching summers are found in the southwest. Kabul serves as both the capital and largest city. The modern political history of Afghanistan dates back to the 18th century, with the Hotak and Durrani dynasties. It later became a buffer state during the Great Game between British India and the Russian Empire. The Durand Line, formed in 1893, separated it from British India but remains unrecognized by Afghanistan, leading to ongoing tensions with Pakistan. After gaining independence in 1947, Afghanistan experienced various political transitions, including a monarchy under King Amanullah and Zahir Shah, followed by a socialist state and Soviet Union protectorate. The subsequent Soviet-Afghan War led to the Taliban's rise in the late 1990s, ruling as a totalitarian regime before being forcibly removed by NATO-led forces. Today, Afghanistan has a democratically-elected government structure. The digital model of Afghanistan features color-coded regions, with approximately 33,858 polygons made from 3 and 4 point polygons. It includes separate materials for distinct regions and parts representing various areas in the country. The mtl file assists with colorization, while UV mapping is present without textures being included.
