Aerodynamic 808 keychain camera mount for 4 inch rockets
thingiverse
This is a sleek one-piece aerodynamic low-profile shroud designed specifically for a generic 808 keychain camera. It's crafted to fit snugly around a 4 inch (102 mm) airframe with precision. I set out to create a shroud that would remain securely attached to the rocket even at supersonic speeds, without causing any unwanted aerodynamic issues. To achieve this, I employed a clever design that incorporates a little velcro to keep the camera firmly in place inside the housing. The top is then sealed with clear packing tape for added security. The entire shroud is fastened to the rocket using a couple of loops of clear packing tape, ensuring a tight and secure fit. This ingenious solution allows the shroud to withstand supersonic speeds without compromising the aerodynamics of the rocket. I had the opportunity to test this design on my level 3 certification flight, which reached an impressive Mach 1.3. The results were outstanding, with the shroud performing flawlessly throughout the entire flight. The second photo showcases the rocket and shroud after the successful flight. It's a testament to the effectiveness of this innovative design. To print this shroud, simply stand it upright on its end with a raft or brim. You may not need supports, but it's always best to check your printer and filament requirements beforehand.
